Target sectors

LCBA focuses on strategic sectors that account for most of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and offers opportunities for close collaboration between EU providers and LATAM companies. Actions across these sectors aim to increase the competitiveness of the LATAM industry while contributing to a low carbon and circular economy.

AGRICULTURE & FORESTRY

AGRICULTURE & FORESTRY
The AFOLU sector is a key pillar for decarbonisation of the economy. With large-scale efforts in reforestation, restoration and sustainable practices in agriculture and livestock husbandry could add up to about 3 GtCO2e abated per year by 2050.

RENEWABLE & CLEAN ENERGY

RENEWABLE & CLEAN ENERGY
Latin American region is extremely rich in a vast array of renewable energy that remains to be explored. In recent years, countries in the region are scaling up renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar and biomass-based electricity.

BIOFUELS

BIOFUELS
Latin America is a leading region in biofuels. The potential expansion of biofuel production to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, offers large opportunities for growth and development in agriculture and related sectors.

WASTE MANAGEMENT

WASTE TO ENERGY
Population and cities are growing quickly in Latin America region, producing greater quantities of municipal solid waste (MSW). The challenge of a new low-carbon economy is an effective innovation driver for waste revalorisation and its use as a source of energy.

INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES

INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES
Technological innovations in strategic industrial sector such as cement production, mining, iron and steel production, and oil & gas industry contribute to reducing GHG emissions and moving towards a circular production paradigm.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

ENERGY EFFICIENCY
This sector offers a great potential for reducing the effects of the ever-increasing rates of energy consumption associated with the economic growth. Actions to improve energy efficiency in industry, residential and transport sectors are at the core of regional governments policy.

Markets

The Action will concentrate on four countries of the Latin American region:

1

Argentina
